Share with teachers: All about food allergy student program

Watch our new video featuring educators and students!

Our “All about food allergy” student program is free, medically-reviewed and curriculum-linked. The goal of this program is to develop the knowledge and skills students need to support the health and well-being of self and others.

When food allergy is a topic in classroom discussions, students gain a better understanding of what it is, how to prevent reactions from happening, and how they can build inclusivity by supporting their classmates living with the condition.

Learn more about our program at foodallergycanada.ca/SchoolProgram and share the information with teachers at your school.

Tips for the last days of summer

Check out our tips on how to manage food allergy with confidence over this last stretch of summer!

Summer events

From picnics to barbecues, summer gatherings often revolve around food. Plan ahead and download our tip sheet for helpful tips on celebrating confidently.

Seasonal menu changes

Late-summer specials and fall menu changes at restaurants can introduce new ingredients (e.g., tree nuts in harvest salads, dairy in seasonal drinks).

Tip: Always ask for the full ingredient list and double‑check labels, even on familiar favourites.

Prepare for new routines

As fall approaches, it’s a great time to reassess your plans if your schedule is changing. Take a moment to go over your emergency plan and don’t forget to check the expiry date on your auto-injector.

Plus, be sure you know how to recognize and treat anaphylaxis. Join us for our webinar in September to take control of anaphylaxis.

Keep pollen food allergy syndrome in mind

Download our handy chart that shows pollens by season

If you have seasonal allergies, you might find that your mouth and throat become itchy when you eat certain fresh fruits or vegetables. This may be pollen food allergy syndrome (PFAS), also known as oral allergy syndrome (OAS).

PFAS symptoms can be experienced at any time of the year, but symptoms may be worse during pollen seasons, such as ragweed season which occurs in late summer into the fall. Register for our upcoming webinar to learn more about PFAS.

Celebrating over two decades of impact: Thank you #FoodAllergyChampion Annette Brennan

Annette Brennan

After more than 24 incredible years of service, we are celebrating the retirement of Annette Brennan, a true champion of food allergy education and support.

Annette has been with us since the very beginning as one of our earliest volunteer speakers. She dedicated countless hours to educating school staff, supporting training for childcare professionals, and being a spokesperson at many conferences, whether our own or for healthcare professionals. In recognition of her tireless commitment, she received the Ontario Volunteer Service Award in 2016, and her family, who all volunteered for the organization at various times in different capacities, received the 2018 Allan Reynolds Volunteer of the Year Award.

In 2020, Annette officially joined our team in member services, where her deep knowledge, lived experience, and compassionate nature made her a trusted and calming presence for so many. Whether she was supporting parents, educators, or childcare staff, Annette’s care and kindness came through in every conversation. Many of you have spoken with her over the years—and we know how much her words of encouragement and practical advice have meant.

Annette, thank you for your extraordinary dedication, generosity, and heart. You’ve made a lasting difference, and you’ll always be part of our community. We wish you all the best as you begin this next exciting chapter—your well-deserved retirement adventure!
