Although she is only 11 years old, 6th grader Lily is a pro at raising food allergy awareness and fundraising for Food Allergy Canada!
Over the course of the last school year when she was in grade 5, Lily did two fundraisers and raised almost $1,000 for our organization. The first fundraiser was during a vendor fair at her school where she contacted companies and asked them to donate their allergy-friendly products so they could be sold at the fair. Her bake sale raised $560. The other fundraiser involved raffling off a PlayStation® 5 home video game console during an arts night at her school; the raffle raised an additional $420.
In October of last year, Lily also put together a presentation to let her classmates know about teal, the colour for food allergy awareness. She spoke about the importance of teal during Halloween, and how neighborhood homes can offer allergy-friendly items for trick-or-treaters. Actually, it was on Halloween five years ago that Lily discovered her allergy to peanut; she is also allergic to tree nuts.
As someone with multiple food allergies, Lily was inspired to make more people aware of the condition. For her educational and fundraising efforts, she was even nominated for a youth leadership award with the town of Oakville, ON!
Thanks, Lily, for the inspiring ways you have spread awareness of food allergy and raised funds for our charity!
